18 Mar Thinking About Cabinetry…
In our addition, there is a wall immediately to the left that I would like to be some sort of built-in cabinetry. I’m imagining something that goes from floor to ceiling with glass doors on top, and maybe closed cabinets (or drawers?) on bottom.
Geez, I looovvveee that above photo. That hardware is gorgeous! I want it to look like a built-in and not like a built-in. I’m imagining it to appear like a piece of furniture built into the wall.
Maybe a raw/salvaged wood look? With all of the sun and windows in the room, I want it to feel very organic, very natural, almost earthy…in an elegant sort of way. Since the cabinetry won’t be set into the wall, or rather, it can’t be set into the wall more than four inches or so, I have toyed with the idea of getting a piece of furniture and then building it into the wall to make it look like it has always been there. I imagine these photos are built-in cabinetry, but you can get the idea.
This Ikea hack gives you a good idea of how this can be done. Read Part 1 here and Part 2 here.
Have you ever seen furniture built into the wall? I’m thinking it could be a bit more cost-effective IF your piece doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. What do you think of built-ins (whether it is a piece of furniture built into the wall or not) vs. just having a large piece of furniture placed on the wall?

Posted at 20:28h, 18 MarchThe first two images are STUNNING! We have no built-in cabinetry in our house and I really wish we did. Might have to get to IKEA 😉
