Even though it is far away (we are going to have to take the interior finish-out of our room in stages), I have started thinking about the interior layout and design of our addition.  My husband and I were laughing yesterday when we realized this was the first time we will have a room in our home that is “new”.  Heck, I think it will be the first time for us with a room built post-1930!  Ha!  Of course, that’s what we like, so it will be a fun experience to have a teeny part of our home that is new.  Interesting how we debate so much about how to make it look old to go with the rest of the house.  (wink)

But because I get to totally design and choose the elements of the room while it is still a wood frame (so exciting!), I’m happy to wait and save up for what I really want so it is really special in the end.  Therefore, I am attempting to figure out a budget and the stages in which we will implement the design.  This week, I have been pondering lighting…I’m imagining sconces on the wall and a large lantern in the center of the room.

Sconces in between every window would look crazy and be too expensive, so I am planning for a sconce one window in on each side of the back wall, and in the center of the wall on the right.  The wall on the left has french doors so no sconce there.  You can see more of the wall on the right in this photo so the sconce will be in the center of that wall.

After some serious searching, I narrowed it down to these three, and sent them to my man to get his opinion.  The sconce has to have a small backplate since there are only six inches between windows.  In my mind, I was imagining something rather delicate, that gave a nod to our home’s history.

This one has a modern flair with the rectangular backplate, and I love the pencil thin neck of the sconce.

There’s not a backplate shown on this one online, but I’m intrigued by it.

I was actually leaning towards this one, and my husband chose it, too.  I will probably order one and see what we think.  Update:  I just found a set of three of these that are used.  Hello savings!!  Looks like this one may be it!

It has a modern deco feel to it which I think is suitable for the room and the house.  A quick search around the web revealed what the French Horn Sconce by Visual Comfort looks like in real life and on a wall.

It comes in this nickel finish which I think is really pretty, too.

I’m thinking it could be the one!  The shades that come with it are pretty, too!

Like every other designer in the word, I LOVE Visual Comfort lighting!  Which one do you like?  Also, I’m going to be searching for the perfect lantern next!  Any favorites?  Although I’m tempted to go the lovely Emily’s route.
