09 Sep My Framed Wallpaper Panel
Who doesn’t love a beautifully framed wallpaper panel? I know I do! Plus framing a wallpaper pattern you adore allows you to take it with you if you move. Major bonus. (and hello renters, instant style for those beige apartment walls you’re not supposed to paint)
The photo above and the two below are framed Gracie wallpaper panels, which are infamous for their handpainted beauty and timeless (over 100 years!) design appeal.
The chinoiserie look of the panels is so glamorous and yes, Gracie panels are super expensive. But I happened to spy a strip of vintage Schumacher wallpaper on Ebay a few months ago that had the sheen and look of the Gracie wallpaper.
(And by the way, “chinoiserie” is pronounced sheen-wah-zuh-ree, and it means “the imitation or evocation of Chinese motifs and techniques in Western art, furniture, and architecture, especially in the 18th century.” You can now sound very official when discussing this fancy design term. You’re welcome.)
Isn’t it beautiful? I LOVE the aqua, emerald, turquoise, silver, and mint color combination, and at about three feet wide by eight feet tall, it was the perfect candidate for a frame. I snatched it up for around $50, I think.
I had it framed, and I believe its new home will be in my bedroom.
I have definitely used more chinoiserie accents in my current home, mostly because it reflects the time period (early 1920’s). In fact, small elements of the architecture demonstrate the chinoiserie influence.
We have this teensy little entryway to our master bedroom, and you can see a little splash of chinoiserie if you look closely. Can you catch it?
Check out the original pagoda-esque built-in.
I’m finding myself letting the house speak to me and taking more time to really ponder what I LOVE before redoing a room or doing anything major. The big things I have done in a hurry just to “get them done” are the things I end up wanting to change. (has that ever happened to you??)
For now, I’m happy with small steps…like my wallpaper panel.

Posted at 15:06h, 09 SeptemberGrace it’s SO PRETTY! Well done. I wish i could just get going with painting my entryway. One thing at a time. I have to start small and then build up, otherwise I’ll get nothing done.

Posted at 14:52h, 10 SeptemberThe panel is wonderful Grace! Reminds me of something Mary McDonald would do.
I love the little niche. It has a Moroccan vibe too! Such a cool architectural element.
Hope you got my email yesterday!

Posted at 18:09h, 13 SeptemberThe wallpaper is beautiful. Having first hand experience in it, I can tell you that buying cheap wallpaper is not worth it. If you want some quality paper like what you have you will not pay less than $60 a roll.
