17 Sep Ikea’s Lillesand Bed
Have you ever gone and looked at a house, just for fun, and it stuck with you? For years?
A couple of years ago, I went to see a house that was on the market, and I just fell in love with it. Of course, it wasn’t perfect, and there were things I didn’t like, but I loved the bones of the house and the decor. One thing I remember from the tour was the bed in their Master Bedroom.
The bed is simple and sophisticated, and that aqua blue color always appeals to me. I hadn’t pondered this house in awhile, until I was in Ikea a couple of weeks ago and saw this bed. Meet the Lillesand bedframe.
It looks pretty similar, right? A little lacquer/paint, and this bed would be a great match! And at $169 for a queen, the price is right! Surprisingly, the bed has decent reviews online. If you have a neutral room that needs some color, this frame is a cost-effective option. Coat it in any bright color and change it whenever you like!
I couldn’t find an image of anyone doing anything with this bed other than leaving it black anywhere! Surely there is someone out there that has a room crying out for a seaside coral or kelly green bedframe, yes? (nudge nudge)
What do you think of this bed? Is there a place in your home for it? What color would you paint it?

Posted at 21:30h, 17 SeptemberSabrina, you must paint it if you get it. 😉 It IS a trek, but worth it! Let me know if you get one!

How would you go about painting the frame? I’m hoping to paint mine bright glossy red, but I’m worried about the paint sticking. Do I need to prime it somehow? Or use spray paint?
Thanks!!
Grace
Posted at 07:55h, 10 OctoberHi Kate, I would definitely prime it first with a good quality primer like Zinsser’s. You could even spray prime it with Rustoleum’s Primer for Metal. From there, you could spray or brush. Good luck! I would love to see a picture!

Posted at 23:04h, 04 DecemberSadly, Ikea has discontinued the Lillesand. I bought the last Lillesand headboard/footboard (king) at my local Ikea this past weekend, though they told me that the side rails no longer exist and that I’d have to fabricate something. Upon my third try calling into the Ikea customer service number, I finally persuaded them to ship me a set of side rails from their Colorado store, which appears to be the last store in the country with stock remaining on the side boards.

Posted at 11:15h, 05 DecemberOh no, Ivan! That is such a shame! Good luck figuring out your rails! Thanks for reading.

Posted at 23:36h, 01 FebruaryI know this post if from a while ago, but I stumbled upon it trying to find reviews for this bed. I can’t wait to get mine! I probably won’t paint it, though, I was planning on keeping it neutral. However, I did see that it came with side rails at my ikea, so I hope that isn’t an issue for anyone else!

Posted at 09:24h, 11 FebruaryHeather, I totally agree! Such a bummer! I think they can still be found though – it may take some searching! Or start scouring CraigsList? Good luck! G

Posted at 01:07h, 24 FebruaryIt’s discontinued? I just checked the ikea website and you can order online. Am I missing something?

Posted at 01:15h, 25 FebruaryHi Nicole, hmmm…I just tried to order it, and it said “the page is not found”, although it did indeed pull the page up when I typed “Ikea Lillesand” in the search engine. Perhaps you are outside the US, and it is still available? G

Posted at 15:30h, 17 AprilI am buying this bed for my daughters first big girl room. I am going to paint hers a turquoise green or maybe a fuchsia pink. Oh the options and the wonderful world of Pinterest.

Posted at 22:37h, 17 AprilLynne, awesome! I’m sure it will look great! I’m more a turquoise green kind of girl, although I can be swayed by the right shade of pink. 🙂 And yes, Internet and Pinterest equals the proverbial rabbit hole. 🙂 Thank you so much for your comment! G
