21 Mar Happy Home Goods Find: Butterfly Taxidermy
This image from Lonny has been stuck in my head for awhile.
Whenever I find butterfly taxidermy in a shop though, it is always hundreds of dollars. (for a large piece) Imagine my shock when I was walking through Home Goods yesterday and spied this.
When I first saw it, I thought, “oh, that’s pretty!” It’s hard to tell here (darn those cell phone images), but the orange in the butterflies is really vivid and striking. I really thought they were fake upon first glance, but then I looked closer.
Totally real. AHHHHH!! I was so excited. But the price?? Not mind-blowingly low, but still GREAT considering what I have seen. Plus this piece is BIG – a good 3 feet x 3 feet, I would guess.
Now the frame is okay, but I think a good gold leaf job would work wonders for it. Yes?
Have you ever made an amazing Home Goods find?

Posted at 07:24h, 21 MarchWhat a find! I scored a small vintage frame with two real butterflies in it at an antique store for $5. I thought it was maybe priced wrong. 🙂 I grabbed that sucker up and my girls love having it in their room.

Posted at 11:17h, 21 MarchThat’s an awesome price for that piece! I was lucky enough to get some great Home Goods finds lately, too. (Blog post here: thekimcollective.com/home-goods-finds) I’m not sure what it is, but I feel like they’ve stepped their game up quite a bit with their new Spring deals.

Posted at 19:10h, 21 MarchSorry, I just can’t get past the fact that these butterflies were once living creatures.

Posted at 22:53h, 22 MarchHi Susan, I understand where you are coming from, I really do. Since butterflies live such a short time though, I do think it is a great way to preserve their beauty, yes? Thank you so much for reading and taking the time to comment. G

Posted at 23:20h, 21 MarchI find bloggers posting “their finds” mildly annoying especially since most people do not have the same luck. This seems like information to keep to yourself and be hppy about. Just my 2 cents.

Posted at 23:07h, 22 MarchHi Sara, I’m so sorry you found the post annoying. I guess we are a bit different in that way because I love to see what other people find! It makes me excited for them, and makes me anticipate what I may find on my next search. I realize everyone is not the same, but I do hope you enjoy reading the blog, and that it is helpful for you in some way. I do appreciate your comment! G

Posted at 10:22h, 25 MarchGrace, I just wanted to tell you I like when you post your finds. Please don’t stop posting them because one person feels bad. (????) I imagine a lot of people like to see them, it inspires us! And by the way, you handled that as gracefully as one could. Living up to your name I guess, ha. Love your blog!
