“It’s all in the details”, they say, and I would have to agree.  A beautiful space is more than just lovely furniture, it’s about texture, it’s about the color story, it’s about the feeling you get when you enter the space.  It’s about the meaning and the story behind what is chosen for the room.  Clearly, this element is especially important to me.  (hello my blog name : ) )

Since the couple I was designing for did not find out before the baby was born (update: it’s a BOY!), I knew I needed to put together a nursery that would work for prince or princess.  We wanted contemporary with a touch of modern, and a calm, serene feel.  The parents-to-be love gray and gold, and thus this nursery was created.  I want spaces to be lovely, but I also strive for them to be meaningful.  

You may see elephant and giraffe art and only see a pretty gold foil elephant and giraffe.  But I know the couple really loves elephants and giraffes – they are sentimental in a way.

You may see cute map letters, but I knew the father of this sweet baby loves maps.  (also, I love insetting wallpaper in door panels!  It always adds instant oomph!  Gold Letter Wallpaper source here)

So you see…it is all in the details, and the story of a room, combined with practical (and beautiful!) elements that make up a complete space.

I thought I would take today and point out the bullet points of the room, and provide you with all of the sources since I have been getting lots of questions! (which I am trying to answer as quickly as possible!)

To add a bit of whimsicality to this nursery, I added pom pom trim to the white roman shades.  You can find the trim here.  I just attached the trim using Fabritac (find it at any craft/sewing store), and it took less than ten minutes to finish all six shades.

I love adding plants to a child’s space because they are so good for the air, and I think it’s pleasant to see green in any room!  Note: You definitely want to make sure what you are putting in a kids room is not poisonous in any way!  Since this is a baby’s room, I thought it would be best to have the plants up and away from sweet one’s hands, so I put these staghorn ferns in moss covered containers.  (For you DFW folks, I bought these at Archie’s Gardenland, a terrific resource!  I adore that place because it is family owned, and the people there are so friendly and helpful.)

To take care of staghorn ferns, you just spritz them with water once a week.  Easy peasy.  I just love how these turned out.  They look so neat next to the art.

The glider was custom made by Rio Rockerz and covered with a white mattelasse fabric.  (crisp and clean! and washable – it is slipcovered!  The gold-thread embroidered “sunshine” pillow is from Home Goods.

Simple storage is all you need for awhile when you have a new baby, so we paired this little shelving unit from Wisteria (we have an outlet here!) with some Target baskets (no longer available, boo, but this is a super easy DIY ) and sorted the toys.

For bedtime reading, I used this gold lamp from Anthropologie (it comes in a floor version, too!), and I loved it because it looks great in the space, plus it can transfer anywhere else in the home later.

By gathering a small stack of vintage blocks, a little bank that was a shower gift, and some little board books, a perfectly baby vignette was styled.

Moving over to the changing table (a vintage campaign dresser that we left in its natural wood state – you don’t have to paint every campaign piece : ) ), my client bought the changing table topper at a garage sale, and bought the gold polka dot changing pad cover from this Etsy seller.  The mirror is from Home Goods, and I will have everything you need to know about the gold foil art in a post tomorrow.  The wall lamp is from Restoration Hardware Baby & Child.  (the color I got was on clearance and now sold out, but here it is in black)

On the right side of the topper, we placed this gold tray from West Elm, and adorable patterned diapers from The Honest Company.  (you can buy them at Target now!)

I found this awesome gold stump at Home Goods, so we placed that next to the crib, plus a basket with blankets and quilts.
