28 Mar DIY Tutorial: Easter/Spring Carrot Candy Gift or Party Favor
I have a fun, easy little tutorial for you today! It would make adorable spring party favors, take-home gifts for your Easter lunch/dinner guests, cute teacher gifts, or any fun springtime reason you can imagine to make them and give them away.
Here’s what you need:
* cone shaped clear cellophane bags
* green decorative gift filler
* scissors
* green duck tape
* orange candy (I used orange M&M’s and orange jelly beans purchased from the candy store in the mall – 2 lbs. made about 2 dozen carrots.)
* double stick tape
Optional Items:
* cute tags
* basket
* brown decorative gift filler
1. Make your life easier and cut off about four inches from your cellophane cone bag. It makes it more simple to scoop the candy in.
2. Cut about a three inch strip of duck tape and then cut it in half. If you snip it a little bit, you can usually tear it the rest of the way – it tears pretty straight. I set it aside by sticking one end to the edge of my table so I could get to it easily.
3. Take your scoop and fill your bag to the desired volume. I used about a half cup to three fourths a cup of candy for each carrot. Twist the top tightly.
4. Take your half strip of duck tape and roll it carefully around the twisted part of the cellophane bag.
5. Snip the excess cellophane off the top of your carrot.
6. Use your fingers to make sure the candy gets as far to the bottom of the tip as it can. Don’t push too hard though, or you’ll split your bag open. (I lost one due to this mistake.)
7. Take a tiny piece of double stick tape and fold it in half. Place it as close to the tip of your carrot as you can.
8. Fold the tip up to create a clean tip of the carrot. (that extra cellophane hanging down is just not as cute)
9. Take the other half of your duck tape and lay it color side down on the table. Taking a small bunch of green decorative gift filler, press the ends of it onto your duck tape.
10. Carefully wrap it around the top of your carrot, starting at one end and rolling and pressing until you get to the end of the strip.
11. Admire your crafty work.
12. If desired, you can add a little tag to your carrot, using twine or any ribbon you have on hand.
To be extra cute, you could place brown gift filler in a basket and insert the carrot candy with their tops up so the guests/gift recipients can pick their own carrot out of your crop.
Kids may like offering these nifty gifties to their teachers this way.
By the way, kids really enjoy making these candy carrots.
Gotta love cute and easy!
