I will tell you, I love trim. I stand in the aisle of the home improvement store and stare at it, dreaming what I can do with it. In this next year, I want to plan out and draw a trim project for every ceiling of every room. More on that later...
For the past few years, I have loved rooms that are cream or white with painted, colorful trim. It's a nice change from the typical wall color and white trim. In fact, I tried to work this concept in my own home when I was trying to figure out my dining room. It just didn't work out, but in my mind, the color story would have been similar to the gorgeous photo below. (note that ceiling!!!)

Of course, is there anything as classic as black? If you want instant elegance, paint your walls white, and your trim and doors black. I find this works especially well in newer homes that need a little added character.
