15 Jan Antique Barber Shop Sink
If you follow me on Instagram (please do! @astoriedstyle), you probably saw the above image I posted a couple of weeks ago. I am extremely excited to announce that Master Bathroom Redo 2014 is happening right now! In fact, I am listening to the jack hammering as I type this. (they REALLY knew how to tile walls and floors 100 years ago) Kent and I have been sharing a small bathroom with our four little ones over a year now (we almost lost another bathroom through the ceiling so we had to shut it down completely), and we are ready to get this done.
Our first purchase for our new louvre was this antique barber shop sink. I’ve actually been staring at it for about five years in my favorite local salvage store. I’ve always thought it could be so neat, but I have never had a spot for it. Would you believe that after all this time, when I went to buy it, it had a “sold” sign on it?! Talk about panic! Needless to say, it worked out, as the lady who purchased it changed her mind. It’s finally mine!
Getting a huge cast iron sink up our stairs was not easy, but thanks to Kent and I’s muscles, we made it without a scratch! I’m planning on centering this in the bathroom with a double sided mirror in between hanging from the ceiling, and getting two unlacquered brass faucets. I will be sharing more concrete plans and a design for the space soon!
If you are interested in this sort of thing, I found a couple of these antique barber shop sinks on Ebay, but they are pretty pricey! I got lucky for sure.
Of course, if you really love something, there’s always room for negotiating. : )
