28 Aug Alt NYC – Sunday Suppers
The conference I attended in New York was the Altitude Design Summit, an occasion created to develop, market, and encourage bloggers. Typically, this event is held once a year for four days in Salt Lake City, but they opened a shorter New York version, and I jumped at the chance. I am so thankful I got in – it was an incredible experience.
Sunday Suppers was the first event, and though I had never heard of Sunday Suppers before, I was so happy I came in a little early to have the opportunity. Taken directly from their site,
Sunday Suppers are class-cooking-dining experiences, pairing friends and food. The classes are held in a waterfront loft in Brooklyn, NY and are taught by local Chefs. The food is market fresh, local and organic and the approach is to create seasonal and fresh meals together.
All classes are styled and photographed by Karen Mordechai.
Since I was staying with my brother and his family in Manhattan, I had to navigate the subway to Brooklyn. This may sound simple, unless you know I have absolutely no sense of direction. Thankfully, I got there without a hitch and trekked up the many flights of stairs to the loft. The hike was well worth it. The loft is white, and bright, and organic, and just lovely.
I loved how they wrapped the vines around the pipes near the ceiling.
Obviously, the food was amazing. Ah-mazing. I believe Sunday Suppers is usually more of a cook-from-scratch class/dine ordeal, but since this was an event, it was just a dine event. Fine by me! The first course was this delicious soup.
Followed by this crazy good chicken with variegated tomato salad.
I am not typically one for ice cream on a stick, but this frozen lemon deliciousness was soooo good.
Because I was enjoying myself so thoroughly, I forgot to take a picture of the dessert which was a ricotta cake. Yummy!
Water was served in tall beakers.
These cute little jars filled with homemade pickles were darling take-home favors.
I loved the simple and wild floral arrangements.
Check out this beautiful view we stared at the entire meal.
The owner/chef/stylist/photographer Karen Mordechai was a lovely host. And I hear she is coming out with a book this year!
It was a charming and scrumptious beginning to a great trip. If you live in New York, or you are planning a trip, definitely check Sunday Suppers out. You will not be disappointed!
Special thanks to Joss&Main for being the host for this event. Their staff attended, and they were all genuinely friendly and excited to be a part of Alt NYC.
